The Gallagher Premiership season is finally upon us, with Bristol Bears battling it out with Bath Rugby at Ashton Gate to get us underway this evening.
With plenty of big name faces available for the opener, it looks set to be a cracking weekend, and The Scout is on hand to give you a few pointers as to who is expected to perform well over the weekend.
One to watch
Our projection algorithm is putting several players within a few points of each other, but the man who gets the nod as the one to watch for the weekend is Dan Robson. Wasps travel to Sixways for a fixture that has the potential for an upset, though if Robson can repeat his feat of scoring 4 tries again on the opening day, there will be a lot of happy fantasy coaches!
Team to watch
Our projection tool is predicting 5 out of 6 of the fixtures to result in an away win, though some of the margins are very tight and might go either way. The stand out team to watch going into the round however, is Saracens, who are expected to post a strong score against Newcastle up at Kingston Park.
Top captain pick
Owen Farrell currently sits as the top pick for the weekend, which comes as little surprise, though he is closely followed by Don Armand. As the game weeks roll on, we will update this to include both the overall captain, and the highest pick for the top 100 places, so you can see how those at the top are going about choosing their teams.
Top value pick
Our top value pick is the player our projection algorithm picks out who is under £200k. This game week, that is Sione Kalamafoni, whose Leicester side travel down to Sandy Park for a stern test against Exeter. This match is set to offer an exciting attritional battle upfront given the additions to Leicester's pack over the summer, and we should expect to see some high scoring forwards in this game.
Have a think about your stragglers going into this gameweek; these are the guys who haven't made your team. They don't need to be playing - for example Tom Young isn't set to appear this weekend, but if he isn't injured we could see him sooner rather than later. If you have a young guy in your side who is playing this week, but doesn't appear again for a long period of time, they become harder to release as the season wears on.
All the best, and the very best of luck to you all - here's to an another epic season!
